To support you through this journey, many of our pieces may qualify for insurance reimbursement as a cranial prosthesis.

What is a Cranial Prosthesis?

A cranial prosthesis is the medical term used for a wig or hair topper prescribed for individuals experiencing hair loss due to a medical condition.

Insurance companies often use this terminology when determining eligibility for reimbursement, rather than cosmetic terms like “wig” or “hairpiece.”

Who May Qualify?

You may be eligible for reimbursement if you are experiencing hair loss related to:

  • Alopecia (including areata, totalis, universalis)
  • Chemotherapy or radiation treatment
  • Hormonal or medical conditions
  • Other medically diagnosed hair loss

Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and individual plan.

What We Provide

To help you submit your claim, we provide:

  • Itemized medical receipt with proper terminology
  • Description listed as “Cranial Prosthesis”
  • HCPCS Code: A9282 (commonly used for reimbursement)
  • Proof of payment

If needed, we can tailor your receipt to meet your insurance requirements.

How to Submit to Insurance

While every insurance provider is different, most claims follow these steps:

  1. Purchase your piece
  2. Request your cranial prosthesis receipt from us
  3. Submit the receipt to your insurance provider
  4. Include any required documentation (some providers may request a prescription or diagnosis)

We always recommend contacting your insurance company in advance to confirm your specific coverage.

  • Etsy or Shopify receipts may not include the required medical terminology
  • We provide a separate compliant receipt for insurance purposes
  • Reimbursement amounts vary by provider and plan
  • We cannot guarantee coverage, but many of our clients receive partial or full reimbursement
